Homemade Taco Sauce Tips

How do you adjust the heat level in homemade taco sauce?

The key to the heat in homemade taco sauce is the cayenne pepper. While we think our recipe is spicy enough as is, you can increase the cayenne or add a few dashes of hot sauce to take things up a notch. Or, make the taco sauce milder by using a little less cayenne than the recipe calls for.

How do you store homemade taco sauce?

Store homemade taco sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Or you can freeze homemade taco sauce for up to a year. Since our recipe makes only 1 cup, you may want to double the recipe if you plan on freezing a portion of it.

How do you use homemade taco sauce?

Tacos (like these easy fish tacos) aren't the only food you can drizzle with taco sauce. It also goes well on a taco salad or a burrito, and makes a great dip for baked french fries or beef nachos. In the morning—or during breakfast for dinner—use it instead of hot sauce on your eggs. (By the way, check out the best hot sauce brands.)
