Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1-1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature, beaten,
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, 5-7 minutes. Beat in egg and extracts. Combine flour, baking soda and cream of tartar; gradually add to the creamed mixture and mix well. Chill for at least 1 hour or until easy to handle.
  2. Divide dough into fourths. On a surface lightly sprinkled with confectioners' sugar, roll out 1 portion of dough to 1/8-in. thickness. Cut into desired shapes using 2-in. cookie cutters. Place on ungreased baking sheets. Repeat with remaining dough. Bake at 350° for 7-8 minutes or until the edges begin to brown. Remove to wire racks to cool.
