Broccoli-Pasta Side Dish

I love to fix new recipes for my husband, Robert, and our children. With garlic and cheese, this broccoli pasta is a tasty way to get kids to eat their veggies. —Judi Lacourse, Mesa, Arizona

  • 2-1/2 pounds fresh broccoli
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • Pinch cayenne pepper
  • 8 ounces linguine or thin spaghetti, cooked and drained
  • Grated Romano or Parmesan cheese


  • Cut florets and tender parts of broccoli stems into bite-sized pieces. In a large skillet, saute broccoli with garlic, oil, butter, salt, pepper and cayenne over medium heat for about 10 minutes or until just tender, stirring frequently. Place hot pasta in a serving dish; top with the broccoli mixture. Sprinkle with cheese.

    This is one of my favorite recipes. It is my go-to for an easy, delicious side dish with my Sunday night grilled chicken. It makes enough, that we have extra for Monday’s lunch

    My family loved this recipe! Next time, I'm only going to use 1 garlic clove. I added some roasted chicken on top before I served this. Add a salad and some garlic bread and supper is served.

    I made this for dinner tonight, adding a handful of sliced dry salami and a splash of cream, to make it a light one-dish meal instead of a side. An easy dish, ready to serve 10 minutes after the water boils.I think if I were making as a side I would still add just a bit of milk or cream, to help the cheese and oil stick to the broccoli.

    Good, but would be better with a bit of sauce. Very dry

    This dish was AMAZING! I added fresh spinach to the broccoli and mixed it into the pasta. I doubled the recipe (except for the oil) and it was such a hit. I have 3 kids (4 if you count my husband) 8,5 & 3 and they went for seconds!

    A tasty side dish. I cut down the olive oil to one fourth a cup, and think I'll use less the next time I make it. Very good recipe!
