Popular with locals and visitors alike, the Christmas Village Festival is an annual shopping extravaganza at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex. Come for the day or make a weekend of it. (If you’re a serious shopper, consider VIP day, when you get the run of the place before everyone else.)
Christmas Arts & Crafts Emporium, Anchorage
Each year, the Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center plays host to a one-day market selling a variety of Alaskan-made and imported gifts, arts and crafts, furs, and food.
Christkindlmarkt, Cave Creek

Arkansas Craft Guild Christmas Showcase Extravaganza, Little Rock
First held in 1978, the Arkansas Craft Guild Christmas Showcase Extravaganza features quality traditional and contemporary art and fine handcrafts, plus gourmet foods. You can find it in the Statehouse Convention Center downtown.
The Great Dickens Christmas Fair, San Francisco
Enter the world of Charles Dickens’ Victorian London and enjoy a theatrical experience as stories unfold around you. One of the nation’s oldest German holiday markets, this Chicago institution held at Daley Plaza boasts more than a million visitors each year. Inspired by the 16th century Christkindlmarket in Nuremberg, Germany, the market has European traditions mixed with international and local delights. The Kinder Club runs activities for children, including a scavenger hunt and a life-size Advent calendar.
Carmel Christkindlmarkt, Carmel
At this event on Center Green, children can see Santa and his reindeer and watch artists carve wooden animals. Skate around the city’s first outdoor ice rink, and shop for gifts and collectibles before stopping for a well-earned sweet treat.

Traditional German gifts such as cuckoo clocks, nutcrackers and other wooden handicrafts are the specialty at this Cowles Commons market. Visitors can watch the crafts being constructed, then purchase the freshly made products. Look for the impressive hand-blown, painted and straw ornaments.

Head to the Nottoway Plantation for one of the country’s most unique Christmas markets, which is held aboard the famed steamboat American Queen. Sparks will fly with fireworks and bonfires on the levee.

Among Maryland’s newest Christmas markets is its best. Held at West Shore Park in the Inner Harbor, the Christmas Village is an indoor-outdoor experience modeled after the famous Nuremberg Christkindlmarkt. Devour waffles and gingerbread while wandering the village, which is filled with traditional German-style wooden huts.

Keep cozy as you wander the market stalls in heated tents at the Germania Society on West Kemper Road. There’s plenty of fun for the kids, too, such as a lantern parade, petting zoo, caroling and carriage rides.
German-American Society of Tulsa Christkindlmarkt, Tulsa
The GAST Center on 15th and Terrace turns into a Christmas wonderland for good shopping (check out the authentic ornaments!) and festive eats. There’s a spielstube for the children, where they can listen to Christmas stories and do activities, and maybe even spot St. Nicholas and Christkindl.

At Christmastime, the Beaverton Library on SW 5th Street hosts a tented holiday market with performers, German food and vendors selling German classics such as advent calendars, nutcrackers, and local and imported handmade holiday decorations. (There’s a tree lighting, too!)
Christkindlmarkt: A German Christmas Bazaar, Pawtucket
Eat and drink traditional German fare and sift through the gifts, crafts, ornaments and clothes on sale. Stop by the Alpine-themed model railroad, too. You can find it all at the German Hall on Carter Avenue.
