When it comes to incorporating color in the kitchen, we’re big fans. When Le Creuset released its lavender line inspired by Pantone’s color of the year, we went totally gaga. And now we’re ready to add another pop of color to our countertops with KitchenAid. The brand just released its first-ever color of the year.

The 2018 KitchenAid Color of the Year

KitchenAid has dubbed 2018’s color of the year to be Bird of Paradise—a vibrant, high gloss coral that gives off a tropical glow. Just released at the International Home and Housweares Show in Chicago in March, this new finish was designed to take consumers “on a visual vacation that was both energetic and comforting at the same time,” according to Jessica McConnell, senior manager of the brand’s color, finish and material studio. She also added that this shade has some nostalgic appeal as well—”a cheeky nod to the tropical aesthetic of the 1960s.”

Looking at this bold, new hue, we’re definitely feeling those tropical-meets-retro vibes. In fact, this new shade has us obsessing over all the desserts we could whip up in a Bird of Paradise-coated mixer. Start with these vintage-inspired coconut cakes and then give these piña colada desserts a whirl.

Over Five Decades of Color

KitchenAid devotees, however, certainly know that this is far from the first color the company has released. In fact, since 1955 KitchenAid started producing appliances in a handful of shades. The first run of stand mixers were produced in Sunny Yellow, Island Green, Petal Pink and Satin Chrome; the color range would be extended again in 1994 (and then in the years following). Setting itself apart from the competition in performance and appearance helped KitchenAid become “king of the countertop” according to AdWeek.

If you’re looking to upgrade your countertop with a new mixer in Bird of Paradise, you can find them in stores and online now. KitchenAid food processors, hand blenders and hand mixers in this new shade should hit stores in July.
