This Fast Food Chain Is Getting in on the Meal Kit Game

Chick-fil-A meal kits will have fresh, ready-to-use ingredients that can be cooked at home in 30 minutes.

Fans of America’s favorite fast food restaurant have something new to look forward to on the menu—Chick-fil-A is making meal kits!

The Mealtime Kits can be purchased at the Chick-fil-A drive-thru or counter, include a recipe card and fresh Chick-fil-A ingredients and should have dinner ready in 30 minutes or less. You can buy ’em at 150 Atlanta-area locations for a “limited time,” starting on August 27. It’s part of a test to decide whether the Mealtime Kits will be offered at restaurants across the country! Here’s what you need to know:

What’s in the Chick-fil-A Meal Kits?

None of the Mealtime Kits feature the same offerings you’d find on the Chick-fil-A menu. (We were hoping for this Chicken Sandwich…) You can choose from five chicken-based recipes:

  • Chicken Parmesan
  • Chicken Enchiladas
  • Dijon Chicken
  • Pan Roasted Chicken
  • Chicken Flatbread

Each kit serves two people and costs $15.89. It’s comparable to the cost of buying two mid-range sandwiches and two sides at a Chick-fil-A. The recipes are all made using the same antibiotic-free chicken that’s used in the restaurants, too. The chicken has even been trimmed and marinated, so you can prep a quick meal in your kitchen.

Chick-fil-A vs. Other Meal Kits

Unlike most other meal-kit concepts (think Blue Apron, HelloFresh and even Walmart), you don’t need a subscription and you don’t have to order ahead. You can buy Mealtime Kits at the drive-thru, front counter or via the Chick-fil-A app.

“We designed our offering so our guests don’t have to order ahead, subscribe to a service or make an extra stop at the grocery store,” said Michael Patrick, an innovation program lead at Chick-fil-A who is leading the Mealtime Kits effort. In other words, you can pick up Chick-fil-A for lunch and a Mealtime Kit for dinner, all in one trip!

Chick-fil-A is the first quick-service restaurant to offer meal kits. If the test is successful, we wouldn’t be surprised to see others like McDonald’s, Panera Bread and Chipotle throw their hat in the ring.
